Linocut portraits
In October 2021 I was sitting in a gallery with my exhibition Life cycles in the Old High Street, Folkestone. It was cold, wet and miserable and there were hardly any visitors. Each morning I selected someone to draw, during the few seconds as they passed by the window. I then developed the drawing, transferred it onto a small lino block, which I cut during the afternoon. In the evening I printed the block and the print was in the window the next morning. This became the series Old High Street I – XIII
The portraits of M and Mme Simoneau were made in a similar way while on holiday in France. In all of these portraits I was interested in trying to capture the essence of their personality in as few lines as possible.
Beachcaster and Blue Scarf are three-block lino prints. The style of Beachcaster is an homage to the woodcuts of William Nicholson (1872 – 1949)
All of these linoprints are available to buy
